I Think It Was Worth the Drive...

Yes, this morning we made the drive up to Omaha for our appointment with the US-CIS official. We were in the car for over 4 hours, and in the Dept. of Homeland Security building for about 20 minutes (including the 2 potty breaks), but I think it was good that we went (and Ev and Syl were AWESOME travelers and loved walking through the metal detector - that was the first thing they told Daddy about when he got home from work :)).

Here is how the conversation at the US-CIS went:

(Sitting in the waiting room, waiting for them to call my name...)
Lady: Julie
Me: Hi, I'm here to check on the status of our I-600A. We sent our application in in January, had our fingerprints taken in February, and haven't been able to check the status of our case on-line or over the phone because our registration number is not in your system. I just wondered if you could tell me anything about the status of our case here?
Lady: I'll have to check on that. Have a seat and I'll call you back up in a minute.
(Sitting in the waiting room, waiting for them to call my name...again...)
Lady: Julie
Me: Yep!
Lady: Your fingerprints have been approved now, so you can expect to receive your FDL in 5-10 business days.
Me: Ok, so they were just approved now then?
Lady: That's correct.
Me: Alright, thank you very much. And so I should be able to check the status of my case on-line now? My registration number is in the system?
Lady: Well, we've actually been having a lot of trouble with our website recently, so I'm not sure if that'll work for you or not.
Me: Oh, ok. So, then if I haven't heard anything in 5-10 business days, I guess I'll need to schedule another appointment here then?
Lady: You should have your FDL in 5-10 business days.
Me: Ok, thank you very much!

And there you have it! Many miles on the car, not so much conversation. But I am glad we went, mostly because I think they only approved our fingerprints today because I was there. Who knows if/when our fingerprints would've come to someone's attention otherwise?!? So, hopefully the lady is right about the 5-10 business days, because if she's not, you better believe I'll be making another trip to Omaha! (I guess we should've budgeted for gas when we were considering the cost of adopting a little one...who knew!!! :) ).

So on top of it Julie. It must feel so great to know that you did all you could to get just one step closer! We can't wait!
