A Nice Day, and DUH...

What a nice day! My folks hosted a sort of graduation party for me today at their place, lots of family and a few dear friends. We had a delicious lunch, and then the dads, grandpas, and kiddos played outside by the water - built sandcastles, took paddleboat rides, threw the frisbee - while the moms and grandmas stayed inside, and sat and chatted with cold drinks. :) My idea of a great time, most definitely!

So, that was the "nice day" part. And now for the "DUH..." part:

You might remember that almost 2 weeks ago now the girls and I made a special trip to the Department of Homeland Security to find out about our fingerprints/FDL. They told us to expect results in 5-10 days. So, every day since then, I've been obsessively running out to the mailbox as soon as I see our mail carrier drive away, hoping and praying for the arrival of our FDL. Last Tuesday, there was a piece of mail from the US-CIS people in our box, and I got all excited when I saw the return address, but quickly felt disappointment when I opened the envelope and it was just a single piece of paper that said "your advance processing application has been forwarded to the National Visa Center" and a few other bits of our personal information, nothing at all about an FDL. So, then tonight, I was checking out another adoptive family's blog. They had just received their FDL in the mail, and had posted a photo of their FDL paperwork. I thought to myself, "That looks a lot like that piece of paper we just got in the mail...hmm..." I dug our letter out again, and sure enough, down in the right hand corner in super-duper small type, I read these words - "Form I-171H" - which is the "technical" name for the FDL!!!!!!!!

YIPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can hardly believe we have this in our hands!!!!!!!!!!!! SUPER-DUPER EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, good grief, now that I know what it is, I'm sure not going to be leaving it sitting on the countertop by my calendar, within reach of the children, anymore. Up into the basket of precious and not-to-be-lost-or-bent-or-damaged-in-any-way Ethiopia adoption documents! What a HUGE blessing, and a GREAT surprise on the eve of Mother's Day. :)

And now you can just say it...DUH.

that's too funny! yeah, they don't make it super clear that it's the form. you'd think they would put it in huge lettering at the top or something!
